How to reach Volgograd?
Volgograd is the southern city of European part in Russia, and it’s 1,000 kilometers from Moscow. 
You can get to Volgograd by the airplane, train or bus from Moscow. 
Planes fly daily from airports Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo in Moscow to the airport Gumrak in Volgograd. The flight takes about 2 hours. You can see the ticket price and the departure time on websites of airlines:

How do I get around in Volgograd?

Volgograd is a big city with approximately 1.1 million inhabitants living in an area of 860 square kilometers. The easiest way to get around is to take a bus, a tram or a trolleybus. To pay the fare, Volgograd locals use the card "Volna". It is cheaper to buy tickets with its help than buying a ticket for cash. For bus trips, the cost of a student card is 600 rbls., for tram and trolleybus trips is 800 rbls.

 What kind of visa do I need to enter Russia and to study at Volgograd State University?

After you apply for one of our educational programs and we confirm your participation, you will receive an official invitation which is necessary to obtain a visa at the Russian Embassy. You will need an ordinary student visa in order to enter Russia and study at Volgograd State University.


What is the language of instruction at Volgograd State University? Are there any courses taught in English?

The main language of instruction is Russian. However in the field of philology and linguistics many classes are offered in English, German and French. At the Department of Philology there is an educational program “Fundamental and Applied Linguistics” entirely conducted in English. Global Economic History” at the Department of Economic Theory, World and Regional Economics is taught in English as well. 


What are the Russian language requirements to study at Volgograd State University?

Generally, in order to follow courses and complete course assessment satisfactorily, Russian language skills equivalent to level B1(2) are recommended.


Where to live during my stay in Volgograd?

The dormitory is 5 minutes` walk from the University. 

We offer 2 types of rooms:

-         for 1 person ( the price is 7080 rubles per month);

-         for 2 persons ( the price is 5400 rubles per month).

Each floor of the dormitory is equipped with rooms for cultural and domestic purposes - recreation rooms, rooms for self-study, kitchens, ironing rooms, garbage disposal rooms and rooms for storage of firefighting equipment. The dormitory has an ambulatory and a sanatorium, where you can get first aid. There is an opportunity to be connected to the Internet.

What are the general living costs per semester?

First of all, it depends on your financial capabilities and lifestyle.But there are mandatory costs that you will have to incur during your stay  in Volgograd. Roughly estimated, the monthly expenses are about 12 000 – 15 000 rubles (including accommodation, food, transport and health insurance).


Where to do sports and fitness activities in Volgograd?

VolSU has its own sport center and gym. By the way the average cost of a monthly pass to city fitness centres varies from 1,500 to 3,500 roubels. When you buy an annual pass, the average monthly cost will be lower. A monthly swimming pool pass costs 300 to 500 roubles.
