The British ranking agency Times Higher Education (THE) has published the results of one of the most prestigious rankings estimating ‘World best universities – 2022’.

The list of the best educational institutions includes 1 662 universities from 99 countries and regions of the world. Russia is represented by 100 universities, 60 of which were included in the main ranking. That was the highest number over the years of its existence. 40 Russian universities, including Volgograd State University, were awarded Reporter status.

According to David Watkins, head of data science at THE, "it is important to recognise those institutions and so this year we have created a new “reporter” status for them. By granting this status we try to motivate universities to further develop their potential".

Lomonosov Moscow State University was named the best university in Russia. Oxford University (UK) awarded the highest position in the world.

When preparing THE ranking, 13 criteria divided into five groups are taken into account. In particular, the experts analyze such indicators as the citation rate of scientific articles, contribution to innovation, income from research activities, quality of teaching, the degree of openness and attractiveness of the university for foreign scientists and students.
